The Art of Theatre: All Access Pass | Ages 9-13

This camp is designed for performers who want to explore multiple sides of theatre in one exciting week. Each day is split into two distinct experiences, giving campers the chance to sample different performance styles. Mornings focus on creativity through improv, movement for the actor and safe stage combat, where campers work on scenes from shows or movies while building character, storytelling, and physical performance skills. Afternoons shift into musical theatre and acting, withdedicated time for songs and scenes. By the end of the week, campers will have explored acting, movement, stage combat, singing, and dance, with an in-class sharing for family and friends on the final afternoon.

Adventure through the world of theatre in this upbeat camp where new and experienced campers alike will enjoy a comprehensive overview of the performance and technical aspects of theatre through scenes from Newsies Jr.. Utilizing teachers who specialize in their class subject, this camp covers a variety of aspects of theatre such as acting, dancing, singing, voice acting, technical design and construction, and more!

Disney’s Newsies JR. is a 60-minute version of the 2012 Broadway musical, based on the 1992 film. Inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies JR. features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.

Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip-hop Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they bound onto your stage in the musical adventure of a lifetime.  Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar  A Musical Adventure KIDS. follows all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.   

Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York’s Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends  Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo  have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them. Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape  with the help of some prodigious penguins  to explore the world.

Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence… and special powers! She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however  the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils’ saving grace!

Play and Pretend Camp

Follow the yellow brick road into a world of imagination! In Play & Pretend: Over the Rainbow, our youngest performers will journey through the magical land of The Wizard of Oz as they explore creativity, movement, music, and storytelling.

Each morning begins with a warm welcome, group stretch, and playful games to get bodies moving and imaginations buzzing. Campers will then rotate through age-appropriate activities including creative drama lessons, imaginative play, simple choreography, music exploration, themed crafts, and short rehearsal moments inspired by Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Lion, and all their Oz friends.

Designed especially for early learners, this half-day camp focuses on confidence-building, teamwork, listening skills, and creative expression in a nurturing, joyful environment. Plan your summer at the Modern! Art Camp is for ages 4 to 13, and Art Study is for ages 14 to 18.

Art Camp emphasizes learning through direct observation of art and thoughtfully designed activities. For the 2026 summer season, we are especially excited to focus on works from the special exhibition Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers. Distinguished local artists design and lead art experiences that range from traditional artmaking to interdisciplinary exploration and lots of fun!

Art campers spend time in the galleries and on the museum grounds exploring art and architecture, followed by sessions in the museum studio where they work with two artists each week. The final day of camp concludes with a reception and exhibition of campers’ artwork, celebrating their creative accomplishments with family and friends. Through Art Camp at the Modern, campers make exciting discoveries about art, the world, and themselves.

A week-long camp for ages 3-12, where students enjoy dance, music, theatre, and visual arts every day with friends. Creativity will flow as the arts are explored! Camps are designed so students can attend one or two of the weeks offered.

Summer Adventures at River Legacy Living Science Center 

Summer Classes at the Nature Center provide students with an exciting hands-on, experiential opportunity to explore our natural world. A variety of STEM programs and topics offer an interactive, engaging way to learn about wildlife, ecology and the environment with classes ranging from Preschool to 8th Grade.

Weekly Summer Camps are available throughout June and July, offering a 9am–12pm schedule for children ages 3–4 years old, and a 9am–3pm schedule for 1st–8th graders.
