WCRA Brings World-Class Rodeo Back to Texas in December With Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo

Tickets for the four-day Triple Crown of Rodeo Event are now on sale!

In mid-December, WCRA (World Champions Rodeo Alliance) will bring world-class rodeo back to Texas with the four-day Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo in Fort Worth at the legendary Cowtown Coliseum Dec. 15-18.

The landmark event will begin on Wednesday, Dec. 15, showcasing more than 200 athletes competing in each of the nine rodeo disciplines: bareback riding, women’s breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping heading, team roping heeling, tie-down roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. A collective $360,000 will be on the line, and each champion will be awarded a check for $12,500.

“This is the most diverse collection of athletes the rodeo industry has ever seen,” said WCRA President, Bobby Mote. “From schoolteachers, to ministers, to retired Las Vegas trick riders and athletes returning from the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, our base of athletes is larger than any one rodeo organization in the world.”

The Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo will be the final of three Major events comprising the 2021 WCRA Triple Crown of Rodeo. The WCRA Triple Crown of Rodeo is a trilogy of Major rodeos offering a $1 million bonus to any one athlete or collection of athletes who win first place in any three consecutive majors. The first stop of the 2021 series was held in Corpus Christi, Texas followed by an event in Salt Lake City.

Those athletes who were victorious in Salt Lake City at the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games and Rodeo, who will be looking for their second win to remain Triple Crown eligible are: Clayton Biglow (Bareback Riding), Tanner Green (Team Roping- Header), Tyler Waguespack (Steer Wrestling), Tacy Kay Webb (Breakaway Roping), and Ryan Jarrett (Tie-Down Roping).

The Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo begins with performance one at 7:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Dec. 15 and will continue nightly through the final performance on Saturday Dec 18. Eight athletes per discipline will go head-to-head in the long rounds (December 15-17) with the Top 2 rides/runs from each performance advancing to the Triple Crown of Rodeo performance on December 18.

Tickets for the WCRA event are on sale now HERE and start at $30, taxes and fees may apply. They can be purchased at the Cowtown Coliseum Office, online at cowtowncoliseum.com or PBR.com, and by calling The Cowtown Coliseum at 1-888-269-8696 or PBR Direct at (800) 732-1727.

GM Financial Parade of Lights

GM Financial Parade of Lights

GM FINANCIAL PARADE OF LIGHTS RETURNS LIVE TO DOWNTOWN FORT WORTH FOR THE 39th YEAR ON NOVEMBER 21, 2021

Tickets for reserved “Street Seats” on sale now; float applications are being accepted until October 15

FORT WORTH, TEXAS (September 15, 2021) – The GM Financial Parade of Lights will illuminate the streets of Downtown Fort Worth for the 39th year on Sunday, November 21, at 6 p.m. This year’s “Making Spirits Bright”-themed parade will mark the city’s official kick-off to the holiday season with more than 100 festive floats, each adorned with holiday decor and over half a million sparkling lights. Reserved “Street Seats” are available for purchase now starting at $15 here: www.fortworthparadeoflights.org/parade-information/street-seats/.

What began in 1983 with a crowd of only 25,000 spectators and 25 floats has grown to become Fort Worth’s most beloved holiday tradition and Texas’ largest illuminated holiday procession. In 2020, due to COVID-19, the Parade took place inside the Fort Worth Convention Center in front of a virtual audience, but garnered an Emmy nomination for its live broadcast on KTXA-TV and Facebook.

In 2021, North Texas families can once again gather to experience the melodies of energetic marching bands, 100+ professionally designed floats, sparkling antique cars, precision equestrian units, festive horse-drawn carriages, and carolers spreading holiday cheer along the parade route. The night will conclude with Santa and Mrs. Claus appearing on the specially designed, LED-lit, grand finale float.

“Downtown Fort Worth Initiatives, Inc. (DFWII) first produced the Parade of Lights to showcase the rich culture and community of Downtown Fort Worth,” said Nina Petty, chair of DFWII’s Festivals and Events Committee. “39 years later, this mission stands true, and we are thrilled to bring this tradition back to the streets of Downtown and do our part to ‘make spirits bright’ for our beloved community.”

There are many opportunities to participate in the 2021 GM Financial Parade of Lights:

  • Reserve “Street Seats”: While the parade is free and open-to-the-public, attendees can get the most illuminating experience by purchasing reserved tickets, or “Street Seats,” in advance. Tickets start at $15 and are available for purchase now. To view all reserved seating options and discounted packaged ticket prices, visit: www.FortWorthParadeOfLights.org/Parade-Info/Street-Seats/
  • Enter a Float: Applications are open until October 15 for those interested in entering a float in the 2021 parade. Entry forms and rates can be found at www.FortWorthParadeOfLights.org/participate
  • Volunteer: Hundreds of volunteers are what make the parade a success year-after-year, with opportunities available in hospitality, merchandise sales, stand and seating attendants, staging areas, entry check-in, and more. Volunteers can sign up online here: www.fortworthparadeoflights.org/participate/volunteer/
  • Become a Sponsor: As a 501c (3) non-profit organization, Downtown Fort Worth Initiatives, Inc. seeks the support of corporate sponsors and partners to help maintain the free and high-quality production of the parade for the Fort Worth community. Sponsorship opportunities, levels and benefits can be found online, here: www.FortWorthParadeOfLights.org/Sponsors.

The official hashtag for the 2021 GM Financial Parade of Lights is #ParadeOfLights2021. For the latest updates on the 39th annual GM Financial Parade of Lights, visit the Parade of Lights:

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Kimbell

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Kimbell

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15), the Kimbell Art Museum will offer a selection of programs celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Latin America and Spanish-speaking communities. Visitors can participate in on-site and virtual opportunities, including drop-in art-making activities inspired by the permanent collection, a film series exploring archaeological discoveries in South and Central America, and two dual-language story times on Facebook Live.

The second edition of “Learning to Look,” the Kimbell’s free publication dedicated to young art lovers, will premiere during Hispanic Heritage Month. It will highlight an early painting by the Spanish artist Joan Miró, exploring how he used bold colors to express new ideas in his Portrait of Heriberto Casany. “Learning to Look” is offered in both Spanish and English and will be available for pick-up at the museum in fall 2021; a digital edition will be available online. Families can also sign up to join the mailing list to receive future editions: https://bit.ly/learningtolook.

Hispanic Heritage Month programming is supported by the Nuestro Kimbell committee, which advises and helps shape the Kimbell’s ongoing efforts to foster meaningful, inclusive and accessible museum experiences for all.

ABOUT THE KIMBELL ART MUSEUM

The Kimbell Art Museum, owned and operated by the Kimbell Art Foundation, is internationally renowned for both its collections and its architecture. The Kimbell’s collections range in period from antiquity to the 20th century and include European masterpieces by artists such as Fra Angelico, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Bernini, Velázquez, Monet, Cézanne, Picasso and Matisse; important collections of Egyptian and classical antiquities; and the art of Asia, Africa and the Ancient Americas.

The museum’s 1972 building, designed by the American architect Louis I. Kahn, is widely regarded as one of the outstanding architectural achievements of the modern era. A second building, designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, opened in 2013 and now provides space for special exhibitions, dedicated classrooms and a 289-seat auditorium with excellent acoustics for music.
