2021 Inductees of the National Cowgirl Museum

2021 Inductees of the National Cowgirl Museum

The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame will welcome five 2021 Inductees at the 45th Annual Induction Luncheon and Ceremony. The luncheon will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the Dickies Arena.

These incoming Hall of Fame members represent a wide range of cowgirls – from a country music superstar, to a world champion breakaway roper, a renowned artist, cowboy hat designer and an Olympic medalist. The induction class includes Pop Chalee, Lari Dee Guy, Kathryn Kusner, Lavonna “Shorty” Koger and Miranda Lambert.

“We are honored to welcome this outstanding class of inductees and add their remarkable stories and accomplishments to the amazing group of honorees they are joining in the Museum’s Hall of Fame,” said the Museum’s executive director Patricia Riley. “Congratulations to all.”

The late artist Pop Chalee (1906-1993) was known for her influential flat, two-dimensional “traditional” style of Native American painting with stylized depictions of forest scenes and wildlife. She painted murals for the Albuquerque Airport in 1945. Her work has been featured at museums such as the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and the Gallery of Living Artists in New York City. Her paintings can be found in many permanent collections, including at the Gilcrease Museum, the Heard Museum and the Millicent Rogers Museum.

Eight-time Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) Lari Dee Guy is the winningest female roper in the world with over 33 championship titles and more than $1.5 million in career earnings. This all started from her early beginnings of winning 11-consecutive AJRA world roping titles at age nine. In 2013, Guy launched the “Rope Like A Girl” campaign to help motivate young girls and women in roping and has traveled the globe teaching. She is also an expert horse trainer and renowned clinician.

Kathryn Kusner is an American equestrian and Olympic medalist in show jumping. She was one of the first women who rode for the United States Equestrian Team (USET) and the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in equestrian competition. Concurrent to her show jumping career, Kusner became the first licensed female jockey in the United States in 1968. She was also the first woman to ride in the Maryland Hunt Cup, the toughest timber race in the world, despite its board trying to keep her from riding in the race.

Lavonna “Shorty” Koger is an Oklahoma native with over 40 years of experience in restoration, fitting, sewing and design of cowboy hats. She started Shorty’s Caboy Hattery in 1990 in the historic Stockyards City, OK, one of the few entirely woman-owned and operated custom hatteries in the United States and is one of today’s leading industry hatters. Shorty’s hats remain world-famous and are sought-after for their attention to detail, intricate sewing process and signature beaver fur and beaver fur blends. She also helped found Rein in Cancer, a nonprofit that raises money to fund cancer treatments and care for patients.

Miranda Lambert is a renowned country music superstar and songwriter who started her career in local Texas bars and released her self-titled debut album independently in 2001. Later she was signed by Sony Music and has since released seven albums as well as three albums with her trio, Pistol Annies. She has won many awards, amongst them 35 ACM awards, which makes her the most decorated artist in ACM history, nine of which were consecutive ACM Female Artist of the year awards. In addition, she received two Grammy Awards and 14 CMA Awards. Lambert and her mother, Bev Lambert founded the MuttNation Foundation in 2009 to shine a spotlight on rescue animals and shelters, raising in excess of $4.5 million since its inception.

TCU vs Texas A&M at Dickies Arena

TCU vs Texas A&M at Dickies Arena

The Texas A&M University Aggies and the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs men’s basketball programs are set to face off at Dickies Arena on Saturday, December 12 during the annual Lone Star Showdown presented by Simmons Bank.

This matchup will mark the first contest between TCU and Texas A&M in men’s basketball since the Horned Frogs claimed a 91-89 win against the Aggies in 1996.

Dickies Arena will also host the Southwest Showcase presented by Simmons Bank for the first time on Sunday, November 29. The double header event will be played between Texas Tech University vs. University of Houston and Sam Houston State University vs. Boise State University.

Texas Tech and Houston rivaled each other for many years beginning in 1972 when Houston joined Texas Tech in The Southwest Conference. The teams most recent match up in 2014, resulted in an 82-69 victory for the Houston Cougars, breaking a nine-game matchup win streak for the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Sam Houston State and Boise State will take to the court for the second time in program history. The first match up took place in 1987 with a 73-66 victory for Boise State.

We are excited to revive some historic basketball matchups at Dickies Arena,” said Trail Drive Management Corp.’s Matt Homan, president and general manager of Dickies Arena. “In collaboration with the NCAA, health professionals and government leaders we have implemented extensive procedures and protocols to protect the health and safety of the student athletes, coaches and fans. We look forward to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for our guests and bringing great games to Fort Worth.”

Tipoff, on sale dates and television broadcast information for all three games will be announced at a later date.

Even the Big Guy in red will be at the sprawling indoor and outdoor wonderland, ready to hear everyone’s holiday wishes. It’s a great opportunity to safely snap those selfie-worthy pics with the larger-than-life light displays during the November 20, 2020 through January 3, 2021 holiday event.

“We want Luminova Holidays to be your safe holiday experience this Christmas,” says Dixie Baker, co-producer of Luminova Holidays and owner of Fort Worth-based creative marketing agency Sovic Creative. “With the challenges this year has brought to so many, it was more important than ever to safely bring families and friends together to create a fun and memorable holiday for all.”

In addition to following the CDC and Texas Department of State Health Services guidelines, Luminova Holidays is working closely with Tarrant County, the City of Arlington and the Texas Rangers to ensure the holiday celebration meets all guidelines and safety protocols recommended. Guests over the age of 10 will be required to wear masks. In addition, sanitizing stations will be set up throughout the event. Frequent disinfecting on all high area touchpoints will be done during the event operating hours and disinfectant sprayers will be used pre and post event to fully deep clean daily.  No bags will be allowed inside Globe Life Field except for necessary medical supplies and manufactured diaper bags that accompany infants and young children. Small clutch bags and clear bags will not be allowed.

The event space spans more than 270,000 square feet of outdoor and spacious indoor areas with limited capacity per night to allow for ample social distancing. When purchasing tickets online, guests will select a timed entry to avoid lines at the entrance. The light path experience will be in a one-way directional path, where everyone can space out accordingly as they wander through the dazzling light trail. Guests may stay as long as they wish once they enter Luminova

Currently on sale, ticket prices start at $14.99. A family pack, which includes two adults and up to three kids, starts at $59.99. Want a VIP experience?  From smaller Christmas gatherings of 10 people to larger parties, get a luxury suite for the ultimate VIP experience for the entire night. Tickets can be purchased at LuminovaHolidays.com. Online ticket purchases are suggested to avoid in-person contact and an additional $2 processing fee at the box office. Limited tickets are available per night during the November 20, 2020 through January 3, 2021 engagement.
