Valentines Day 2023 in Fort Worth

Valentines Day 2023 in Fort Worth

VALENTINE’S DAY 2023

The History of Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day is named after Saint Valentine, a Catholic priest who lived in Rome in the 3rd Century.

At the time of Valentine’s life, many Romans were converting to Christianity, but the Emperor Claudius II was a pagan and created strict laws about what Christians were allowed to do. Claudius believed that Roman soldiers should be completely devoted to Rome and therefore passed a law preventing them from marrying.  St Valentine began to marry these soldiers in secret Christian ceremonies and this was the beginning of his reputation for believing in the importance of love.  200 years later, February 14th was proclaimed St Valentine’s Day

This year we officially celebrate our Loves on a Tuesday.  Don’t wait till Tuesday!  Here is a list of great date night experiences to celebrate Love in Fort Worth, either before or after February 14th.  Happy Valentine’s Day!  We LOVE Fort Worth!

Cliburn Concert Series with J’Nai Bridges

Friday, February 11th

The Post at River East

A flashy Cliburn Concerts debut, without a doubt: J’Nai Bridges comes to Fort Worth fresh off a 2022 Grammy win for her recording of Philip Glass’ Akhnaten with the Metropolitan Opera. She’s known for her “plush-voiced mezzo-soprano” (The New York Times) and has been heralded as “a rising star” (Los Angeles Times); she’s graced the world’s top stages in repertoire ranging from traditional favorites to world premieres to spirituals and standards. The American mezzo-soprano sold out her Carnegie Hall solo recital debut. She’s performed at the BBC Proms, Elbphilharmonie, and Tanglewood Festival; with the San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Dutch National Operas; and with the National, BBC, New York Philharmonic, and Chicago Symphony Orchestras, the last with Yo-Yo Ma. And now a handful of lucky Fort Worth patrons will get to hear her excellence in two intimate concerts, one at the Kimbell, one at The Post.

An Evening with JD Souther

Saturday, February 17th

Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee JD Souther is “one of the most celebrated songwriters of his generation,” writes Interview Magazine. “Raised on a steady diet of big band and jazz during his childhood, Souther has routinely returned to that music— as well as the genius songwriters of the early 20th century (Gershwin, Cole Porter)—for inspiration. On his latest studio album, Tenderness, Souther combines these musical threads, striking a perfect balance between understated jazz and the ineffable pop narratives that have been the backbone of much of his greatest work.”

TBT Announces Final “The Nutty Nutcracker” Performance

Texas Ballet Theater Announces Final Performance of The Nutty Nutcracker

Texas Ballet Theater (TBT) announces that the December 16, 2022 performance of The Nutty Nutcracker at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth will be the company’s last presentation, after 12 seasons, of the pop culture-infused parody for the coming years.

This change comes as former Artistic Director Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., transitions into his new role as Artistic Director Laureate. Acting Artistic Director Tim O’Keefe, former Associate Artistic Director, will create the programming for the upcoming 2023-2024 season, marking a shift in the nonprofit ballet company’s artistic vision.

TBT will continue to present all other holiday events and productions, which include the Tutu Chic Fashion Show and Luncheon in Dallas, the Caren Koslow Fashion Show and Luncheon in Fort Worth, the Sugar Plum Fairy Tea and the full five-week production of Ben Stevenson’s The Nutcracker at Winspear Opera House in Dallas and Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, as well as a variety of performances for schools in the DFW Metroplex.

“We are sad to see this long-standing tradition come to an end at TBT, but we are excited for the future and look forward to starting new traditions that will be as fun for the audiences, and dancers, as Nutty,” said Tim O’Keefe, Acting Artistic Director, Texas Ballet Theater.

The Nutty Nutcracker is sponsored in part by The M.R. and Evelyn Hudson Foundation. Patrons can purchase tickets online at texasballettheater.org or by calling the Box Office at 877-828-9200 option 1.

A Twitty and Lynn Christmas
Downtown Cowtown
at The Isis Theatre

Friday, December 2nd, 7:30pm

Tayla Lynn and Tre Twitty have country music in their blood. The grandchildren of famed duo Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty, the two have taken to the road to honor their grandparents in an intimate evening of music and storytelling.

Through their memories of Memaw and Poppy, as they call their grandparents, the show takes on the quality of a family get together, and it often feels more like one is on the front porch with guitars and old family hymns than it does a concert. It is a fascinating opportunity to see two of country musics greatest legends through their grandchildren’s eyes. The high-energy, heartfelt show highlights not only the bond Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty had as best friends and musical partners, but the unique bond Tayla and Tre have formed through years of an intertwined family history and their own musical relationship.
