Cinco De Mayo

Cinco De Mayo

Cinco De Mayo | 2021

As you plan your Cinco de Mayo festivities in the Fort, you might want to know the special significance that Fort Worth had in Mexico’s victory over the French Empire in the Battle of Puebla on Cinco de Mayo in 1862. NOTHING

We could reach and find a significance or a degree of separation between Fort Worth and the Battle of Puebla, but why?  Let’s celebrate Cinco de Mayo 2021 with a bit of hope in the air.  We can see a glimpse of normalcy in the future, WUFW invites you to approach Cinco De Mayo with extra vigor and fortitude in 2021.  Let’s use Cinco de Mayo as our opportunity to drown all of our COVID memories.

We at What’s Up Fort Worth cannot think of a better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than with a frosty cold margarita from one of the Fort’s favorite eateries or bars.

Here’s the Top 10 List and More.  Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

Mother’s Day in Fort Worth

Mother’s Day in Fort Worth

Mom says to continue to follow social distancing guidelines, even on Mother’s Day.  Listen to your mother!  We will have many more years ahead to get up close and personal, but let’s stay on track with COVID-19 this Mother’s Day and continue to follow the guidelines offered by the health authorities.

#1| Mother’s Day Brunch at….Home

It’s time to step up Guys and Kiddos—

Here’s a fun twist on Mother’s Day Brunch

Make all of Mom’s favorite brunch goodies, turn off the television, phones, Everything!  Make mimosas, order flowers, what else does Mom like?

Then when you think you have done enough, turn on her favorite movie and either

1) Enjoy it with her, or

2) Get lost and let her enjoy it alone.

Let Mom decide whether #1 or #2 work better for her.

#2| Pick Your Favorite Mother’s Day Brunch Spot in Fort Worth

If you are not so adventurous to create your own Brunch for Mom, Fort Worth Foodies offers this list……..

B&B Butchers | Clearfork

Beacon Cafe 287 | Northside

Del Frisco’s | Downtown Fort Worth

Ellerbe Fine Foods | Near Southside

Pinstripes | Clearfork

Sky Creek Kitchen | Southlake

Taste Community Project | Near Southside

Trulucks | Southlake

Waters | Sundance Square

Wicked Butcher | Downtown Fort Worth

Joe T Garcias | Northside

If you consider yourself a Foodie or you just like to see What’s Up in the Fort Worth culinary scene, you need to check out Fort Worth Foodies.  Click here for the Fort Worth Foodies website, or Facebook page.

#3| Enjoy a Stroll or Bike Ride Along the Trinity Trails

Please follow all city guidelines regarding park closures and social distancing guidelines.

The Trinity Trails is always a great family outing.  Extending through Fort Worth for over 70 miles along the Trinity River, The Trinity Trails is a wonderful trek for hikers, bikers, runners, and horseback riders and a special outing with Mom.

Click here to check out the trails!

#4| Every Mom loves flowers!

SAVE $10

Here’s an idea that doesn’t take any social distancing thought to it.  Order Mom flowers or a beautiful spring flower arrangement.  What’s Up staffers use Gordon Boswell Florist.  Plan your delivery or pick up dates on Monday thru Wednesday next week (May 3-5) and get $10 off.  Just add Coupon Code MOM2021 online or by phone.

#5| Enjoy a Glass of Wine with Mom

Cowtown Winery, located on Mule Alley in the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards, will be offering half-off glasses of wine to all moms on Mother’s Day – Sunday, May 9th.

Cowtown Winery is a full-service winery in Fort Worth, Texas, offering dry reds, dry whites, ten flavors of semi-sweet fruit wines, and dessert ports. All of their grapes are sourced from vineyards throughout Central California. Cowtown Winery has won numerous state, national, and international wine competitions over the years. They additionally offer custom wine labels, a wine club, blending classes, and winery tours. With grapes fermented and bottled in Fort Worth, Cowtown Winery offers a range of wines for every taste. Patrons can sip on wines by the glass, bottle, or through wine flights and snack on charcuterie in-store or through take-out.

#6| Indulge in Some Retail Therapy with Mom

Every mom has “a thing” or favorite store.  Treat your mom to an afternoon of safe, social distanced shopping and buy her something nice, something she would not have bought for herself.   Be safe and Buy Local.  That makes Mom happy and keeps the Fort retail wheels turning.  #Support Our Fort.  We love supporting Fort Worth businesses so that’s always a Bonus.  A good day of shopping is always followed by a good glass of wine at your favorite spot.   See #5!

#8| Give Mom a Mani-Pedi

Couldn’t do a Mani-Pedi for Mother’s Day 2020 so it’s long overdue.  Treat Mom to a little pampering to encourage mother-daughter bonding. You’re out with Mom and  pampering her (and yourself).  Doesn’t that feel good?

#9| Garden Together

Stop by your favorite garden center, back to #Support the Fort, and plan a day of gardening with Mom.  It can be as intense or light as you want.  It might end up with a nice Sip and Sit with Mom on the back porch…and that’s always a good thing!

#10| Adopt a Monarch Butterfly for Mom

The Fort Worth Zoo offers a unique way to celebrate Mother’s Day.  Adopt a Monarch butterfly in honor of Mom this year! Celebrate Mom all year long with a monarch adoption from the Fort Worth Zoo. This adoption includes a monarch plush and a packet of native wildflower seeds for you to create your own butterfly retreat at home! Your adoption supports the care and feeding of the animals at the Fort Worth Zoo, including the pollinator species, and planting native wildflowers helps wild butterflies in all phases of their life cycle.

Click Here to learn more about butterfly adoption with the Fort Worth Zoo

#11| Plan a Game Night for Mom

You know what games Mom likes to play—card games, board games, charades, or any other party game.  If Mom likes it, let’s play it!

#12| No Work Pass

OK this should be a given.  Moms do not work on Mother’s Day.  If your mom tries to participate in work activities,  present her with a “No Work Pass” for the day.  Sit her down and take over.

#13|Custom Coupons for Mom

Since COVID has held us back with so many activities with Mom this past year, put a coupon book together for things that you  and Mom have not been able to do for the past 14 months.  Ideas are easy—lunch and a movie, a wine outing or Happy Hour, a spa day.  The list is endless and it gives Mom lots more things to look forward to, as we continue our work to put COVID 19 behind us.
