SUMMARY:Fort Worth Food & Wine Festival
DESCRIPTION:A group of two dozen or so Fort Worth food and beverage employees and enthusiasts gathered one afternoon in 2012 to talk about how to launch a party to celebrate the joys of good things to eat and drink in Cowtown. These folks were gathered around a big table by Russell Kirkpatrick and Mike Micallef\, longtime colleagues at Fort Worth’s famous Reata restaurant. \nThe two became founders of the Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival\, agreeing that it was time to celebrate the local culinary scene. As it turned out\, the duo found lots of immediate\, enthusiastic support. Things got cooking\, so to speak\, in 2013 with a series of dinners called 20 at the Tower. Russell and Mike located a then-empty downtown restaurant space in the former Bank One Tower and invited a star-studded list of chefs from Fort Worth and Dallas to cook a special menu each week over the summer. Guests signed up\, not knowing who would be at the stoves on a given night; the BYOB event series was a smash-hit\, raising the seed money needed to host the inaugural festival the following spring. \nIn 2014\, the first FWFWF rolled out downtown at The Worthington Hotel and in Sundance Square. After that\, the four-day party moved around town\, staged at sites like the Pier 1 headquarters facing the Trinity River\, and then Billy Bob’s\, Bass Hall\, The Fort Worth Club\, Panther Island\, and Whiskey Ranch. By 2018\, FWFWF found a long-term home in Fort Worth’s Clearfork\, with signature events showcasing tacos\, burgers\, upscale dining\, brunch favorites\, live-fire cooking and all manner of beer\, wine\, and spirits\, all happening under the live oaks on Fort Worth’s legendary Edwards Ranch property. \n\n\n\n\n\nFWFWF continues to evolve in celebrations\, adding elite seated brunch and dinner parties featuring celebrity chefs from near and far. To date\, partners for such events have included Garden & Gun and Texas Monthly magazines. All events routinely sell out far in advance\, whether fajitas or foie gras is on the menu. Audiences numbering as many as 1\,300 at a single event keeps the Fort Worth food-and-beverage love growing in leaps and bounds. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBut it’s more than just a party! The FWFWF also works hard to benefit industry personnel with education and financial support. As a non-profit entity\, the Fort Worth Food + Wine Foundation\, which benefits from the festival’s fundraising\, provides scholarships for students from North Texas high schools seeking higher education in the culinary arts and grants for area high school culinary programs in need of equipment. The Foundation also adds to special endowments to culinary\, nutrition\, and food science and management programs at Tarrant County College\, Texas Christian University and the Culinary School of Fort Worth. What’s more\, the Foundation launched an employee relief program at the pandemic lockdown outset\, providing money to restaurant and food industry workers who needed financial assistance. That program continues for employees with health issues and medical needs. As we continue well into our second decade\, we are a stronger community\, thanks to everyone who makes the FWFWF a delicious success. \n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Architecture Week at The Modern
DESCRIPTION:The Modern Art Museum\, in partnership with the American Institute of Architects Fort Worth\, proudly celebrates Architecture Week (April 12–18) with a series of special events\, including exclusive film screenings\, guided architecture tours\, and a hands-on family program\, Box City. \nFamily Program: Box City \nA Hands-On Celebration of Architecture Week \nFriday\, April 17 from 5–8 pm \nSaturday\, April 18 from 10 am–5 pm \nModern Grand Lobby and Education Studio \nFree admission | All materials provided \nJoin AIA Fort Worth and the Modern for an engaging\, family-friendly celebration of Architecture Week with Box City! This interactive workshop\, led by members and educators of AIA Fort Worth along with architects Ashleigh Hood and Claire Kennedy\, invites children and families to explore the principles of architecture and urban design through creative play and sculptural building. \nParticipants will begin by learning from Ashleigh Hood about architectural concepts\, city planning\, design principles\, and the roles of permits and building functions within a community. Guided by this foundation and under Claire Kennedy’s creative direction\, participants will then use predominantly recycled materials to design and construct their own sculptural\, “officially permitted” buildings\, contributing to a collaborative miniature sculptural city installed in the Grand Lobby. \nParticipants are encouraged to bring their own boxes—such as shipping\, shoe\, or cereal boxes—to transform into buildings\, though materials will also be provided. The layout of Box City\, inspired by a special painting in the Modern’s permanent collection\, will come to life on a large-scale\, pre-painted canvas serving as the city grid and vibrant foundation for the collaborative creation. Additionally\, a public park will be incorporated into the city layout\, where guests will have the opportunity to design small sculptures that will contribute to a public art installation within the cityscape. \nPerfect for all ages\, this hands-on program fosters creativity\, teamwork\, and a deeper appreciation for the built environment. Drop in anytime and help build a sculptural city! The completed Box City will remain on display in the Grand Lobby through the end of the day on Sunday\, April 19. \nSpecial Architecture Tours \nMeet in the Modern’s Grand Lobby \nIncluded with gallery admission \nFriday\, April 17; 4 pm – Light and Space \nSaturday\, April 18; 3 pm – Inside/Outside \nSunday\, April 19; 3 pm – Materials \nFilm Screening \nEames: The Architect and the Painter \nTuesday\, April 14 at 6 pm \nFree admission \nA feature-length documentary that explores the groundbreaking partnership of Charles and Ray Eames\, the husband-and-wife team who transformed modern design in America\, playfully blurring the boundaries between art and architecture. The film traces their creative collaboration from their iconic molded plywood and fiberglass furniture to films\, exhibitions\, and architectural projects\, revealing how their shared curiosity and disciplined practice reshaped the way we experience design. \nEmerging Visions: \nAn exhibition of student work from the 2025 High School Architecture Summer Camp \nPresented by AIA Fort Worth \nFriday\, April 17\, 5–8 pm and Saturday\, April 18\, 10 am–5 pm \nEducation Studio \nFree admission \nCelebrate creativity\, innovation\, and the future of design! We’re proud to showcase the work of talented high school students from across North Texas. These young designers have poured imagination and effort into their projects\, exploring architecture and the built environment. Each piece reflects originality\, a thoughtful design process\, and strong presentation—offering a glimpse into the next generation of creative professionals. Explore their work and see what’s possible when young minds tackle big ideas. \nThe showcase will be on view in the Education Studio during our family program\, Box City. \nThis program exhibition is presented as part of AIA National Architecture Week. The camp and program exhibition were funded\, in part\, by a grant from the AIA College of Fellows.
