Texas Ballet Theater Presents World Premiere:
Cirque du Ballet

Texas Ballet Theater (TBT) will begin its 2022-2023 season with Cirque du Ballet, a brand-new production from Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., September 16-18 at Winspear Opera House in Dallas and September 30 – October 2 at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth.

Choreographed by Stevenson, TBT’s Artistic Director Laureate, the ballet will showcase characters and choreography from famous ballets brought together as acts in a nostalgic circus. Notable appearances include Cinderella, Dracula, Romeo and Juliet and more.

“This ballet gives me an opportunity to work with a lot of dancers on different things they’ve done in their repertoire,” Stevenson said. “We’ll have fun with it – I always love working with the dancers.”

TBT will also offer a kids’ craft area before each Saturday matinee. Stevenson says Cirque du Ballet is specifically created to be attractive to the whole family, with a ring master on stage to present and introduce the featured ballets and characters.

Cirque du Ballet is Stevenson’s first ballet since being named Artistic Director Laureate. He previously served as Artistic Director for 19 seasons. Former Associate Artistic Director Tim O’Keefe now serves as Acting Artistic Director for the nonprofit ballet company.

Cirque du Ballet will be a new and exciting experience for our ballet audience,” O’Keefe said. “It highlights the beauty of classical ballet, staged in an unexpected and fun setting.”

Patrons can purchase tickets by calling the Box Office at 877-828-2900 option 1 or visiting TBT’s website at https://texasballettheater.org/performance/cirque-du-ballet/.

Texas Ballet Theatre Announces 2022-2023 Season

Texas Ballet Theatre Announces 2022-2023 Season

Texas Ballet Theater (TBT) announces its 2022-2023 season, including an additional production, a world premiere and classic favorites.

The nonprofit ballet company will open the season with Cirque du Ballet, a world premiere production featuring an array of characters and choreography from the world’s most popular ballets. TBT Artistic Director Ben Stevenson, O.B.E. will choreograph the production, running at Winspear Opera House in Dallas September 16-18, 2022, and at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth September 30-October 2, 2022.

The season will continue with the annual production of The Nutcracker, also choreographed by Stevenson. The holiday favorite will run at Winspear Opera House November 25-December 4, 2022, before moving to Bass Performance Hall December 9-24, 2022.

For one night only, TBT will present The Nutty Nutcracker, a pop culture-filled parody of the traditional ballet, at Bass Performance Hall December 16, 2022.

Next, the company will perform Modern Masterpieces, a mixed repertoire production featuring Stevenson’s Bartok and Image as well as choreographer Garrett Smith’s Imbue. Modern Masterpieces will run at Wyly Theatre in Dallas February 24-26, 2023, and Bass Performance Hall March 17-19, 2023.

TBT closes the season with the return of Stevenson’s Alice in Wonderland. This ballet follows the classic children’s story and includes a unique element – select dialogue and narration by characters, typically unseen in ballet. Alice in Wonderland will be on stage at Winspear Opera House May 19-21, 2023, and Bass Performance Hall May 26-28, 2023.

“The season truly has something for everyone,” Stevenson said. “It is full of fantasy and engaging stories, presented by our talented company of dancers. The whole family can come and enjoy the ballet all season long.

TBT Revives The Nutcracker for Holiday Season

TBT Revives The Nutcracker for Holiday Season

After a 19-month hiatus, Texas Ballet Theater (TBT) will return to its resident venues to present The Nutcracker at Winspear Opera House on the AT&T Performing Arts Center Campus November 26-December 5 and at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth December 10-26.

Choreographed by TBT Artistic Director Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., the family-friendly ballet features a classic story, festive choreography, and elaborate sets to put patrons in the holiday spirit. The show includes special effects that enhance Clara’s dreamland such as snow, clouds and flying dancers.

The Nutcracker is a holiday tradition for so many families in North Texas,” Executive Director Vanessa Logan said. “We are ecstatic to bring it back to the stage in 2021 and cannot wait to celebrate with our community in person again.”

The Nutcracker will be TBT’s first full-scale production since the emergence of COVID-19 in March 2020. The nonprofit ballet company canceled The Nutcracker performances last year and offered a filmed version for patrons to view at home. Dancers and staff alike anticipate the return of this annual tradition.

“As we prepare for The Nutcracker, I am filled with so many feelings,” Company Dancer Carolyn Judson said. “I know I’ll be battling nerves that have been lying dormant for a while once performances begin, but I am looking forward to performing with new excitement, new love and new gratitude this season.”

Tickets start at $25. Patrons can purchase tickets online at texasballettheater.org or call the Box Office Monday-Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, at 877-828-9200 option 1. AT&T Performing Arts Center, Bass Performance Hall and Texas Ballet Theater all require patrons to wear masks.

Texas Ballet Theater 2021-2022 Season

Texas Ballet Theater (TBT) will return to its resident performance venues in the 2021-2022 season, starting with the holiday favorite The Nutcracker.

The nonprofit ballet company will open its season with The Nutcracker, choreographed by TBT Artistic Director Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., at Winspear Opera House in Dallas November 26. The production will run in Dallas through December 5, then move to Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth December 10-26.

Next, TBT dancers will perform A Tchaikovsky Evening, a mixed repertoire production featuring George Balanchine’s iconic Serenade and two world premieres – Star Crossed by Stevenson and Violin Concerto in D by TBT Associate Artistic Director Tim O’Keefe. A Tchaikovsky Evening will run February 11-13 at the Wyly Theatre in Dallas and February 18-20 at Bass Performance Hall.

The company will close its season with the world premiere of Stevenson’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, running May 6-8 at Winspear Opera House and May 20-22 at Bass Performance Hall. Audiences will finally see the long-awaited premiere, originally scheduled to close the 19-20 season.

“With a return to the stage and three world premieres, this may be Texas Ballet Theater’s most thrilling season yet,” Stevenson said. “Our dancers are looking forward to performing again, and we can’t wait to welcome both familiar and new friends into the audience.”
