Celebrate World Whisky Day in the Fort

FORT WORTH DISTILLERIES

Convert a beautiful golf course with panaromic views of downtown Fort Worth,  Select a tiny corner of downtown Fort Worth with a questionable history, known as Hell’s Half Acre, Throw in a historic building with some…Yes, black-eyed peas with a West Texas down on his luck farmer, Then head east a bit to another historic landmark with Ranch Style Beans heritage and lots of Texas rainwater, and Wrap it up with a hipster bar and unique Texas grains in The Foundry District…and you have a glimpse of the Distillery scene in Cowtown.

Pay homage to World Whisky Day in Fort Worth (Saturday, May 15th) by ordering your favorite libation with whiskey from a local distillery.  Cheers!

THE KIMPTON HARPER HOTEL SLATED TO OPEN IN DOWNTOWN FORT WORTH EARLY JUNE

New boutique hotel features 226 rooms, contemporary Italian restaurant, and penthouse bar

FORT WORTH, TX (April 27, 2021) – The highly anticipated Kimpton Harper Hotel debuts in downtown Fort Worth on June 2, 2021. Development Services Group, Inc., based in Memphis, TN, acquired the architectural landmark near Sundance Square from XTO Energy and oversaw the adaptive reuse to convert it from an office building into The Harper Hotel. Originally built in 1921 in the heart of downtown Fort Worth as the headquarters for Farmer’s and Mechanics Bank, the reimagining of this striking building coincides with the 100th anniversary of its original completion. The Harper Hotel is managed by Pivot, the lifestyle operating vertical of Davidson Hospitality Group. In the heart of downtown and three miles from the historic Fort Worth stockyards, the location offers a unique destination for travelers and locals alike with the renowned Sundance Square Plaza as well as shopping, entertainment, restaurants, and a lively bar scene—all just steps away.

Kimpton Harper Hotel Image

The Harper Hotel offers 226 guest rooms and suites for guests to enjoy, fit for business as well as pleasure. Designer Cynthia Forchielli of Forchielli Glynn brings the perfect blend of relaxed yet sophisticated design to every room, including handcrafted furniture, thoughtful details, brass pendant lights, woven baskets, and lively local art. Additionally, guests can find subtle nods to Fort Worth’s history, such as a panther figurine, referencing the ‘Panther City’ nickname, that greets guests upon opening the room closet. Guest rooms and suites offer luxurious Frette bedding, Atelier Bloem bath amenities, Bluetooth speaker systems, and plush bathrobes for ultimate relaxations. For guests wanting a little extra space to spread out, 31 one-bedroom suites offer these signature amenities and more, such as dreamy soaking tubs, wet bars, and gorgeous views of downtown Fort Worth and surrounding plains.

For a morning or afternoon pick-me-up, The Harper Hotel offers complimentary coffee and tea service for guests and hosts a daily social hour from 5-6 p.m. in the living room lobby, the ideal common space for gathering, located next to check-in on the 24th floor. Guests can also take advantage of the state-of-the-art Fitness Center with high-end equipment, such as Peloton bikes.

The Harper Hotel also offers a first-class culinary experience. Bringing contemporary Italian cuisine to downtown Fort Worth, Il Modo, helmed by Chef Matt Williams, keeps seasonality and sustainability in mind with offerings including house-made pasta, wood-fired pizzas, and rustic-refined Italian dishes—all prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Restaurant and bar guests can also enjoy a thoughtful wine list created to harmonize with the cuisine and cocktails built around Italian classics. Il Modo is located on the ground floor, easily accessible for both travelers and locals, and the restaurant offers a view of its pasta-making room for a behind-the-scenes look. For special occasions, private dining is available, as well as pasta-making classes.

Craft cocktails and libations pair best with sweeping views at Refinery 714, The Harper Hotel’s penthouse whiskey bar and cocktail lounge. Nestled on the 24th floor, adjacent to the living room lobby and check-in area, Refinery 714 offers a buzzing social scene as well as a space to unwind with robust whiskey offerings, classic cocktails, curated beers and wines, and a select menu for elevated bar bites. Perched high above downtown with unbeatable views, it easily feels like the neighborhood’s best-kept secret. Refinery 714 also offers a private dining room flanked by two floor-to-ceiling glass doors for a more intimate setting.

With more than 10,000 square feet of event space, including the Sanquinet Boardroom on the 24th floor and the Centurion Ballroom on the second floor, along with meeting rooms and spaces for gatherings of all kinds, The Harper Hotel crafts event experiences spanning from classrooms and conferences to weddings with interiors and finishings that stay true to The Harper Hotel experience. Additionally, meeting rooms have built-in buffets, and personalized catering is available.

Reservations are now open for stays beginning on June 6. For more information on the hotel, please visit theharperfortworth.com. Stay tuned for additional updates by following The Harper on Facebook and Instagram.

Buy a Tee — Save some Jobs!

This has been a devastating year for the local culinary scene.  What’s Up Fort Worth has been on the lookout for ways to #supportthefort and assist local restaurants with funds to stay afloat while we’re social distancing.

We’ve partnered with Ben E. Keith and the Texas Restaurant Association in a fundraising effort YOU CAN WEAR!

For the entire month of July, we’re selling EAT LOCAL | EAT OFTEN tees. Every dollar we make on these t-shirts will go straight to the Texas Restaurant Relief Fund — supporting local restaurants and their employees while traffic wanes due to the Pandemic and Social Distancing.

The Texas Restaurant Relief Fund

Amidst one of the most unparalleled times in our history, while the shutdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic catastrophically impact restaurants across the nation, the Texas Restaurant Association’s Education Foundation (TRAEF) has established the TX Restaurant Relief Fund to provide immediate financial support to Texas’ independent restaurateurs and their employees.

The Texas Restaurant Association (TRA) has been and continues to be at the forefront of navigating this crisis, fighting daily to support the evolving needs of Texas’ more than 50,000 restaurants and their 1.4 million employees. As the Association continues to work with local, state, and federal officials to ensure that the essential services provided by restaurants remain available to our communities, we must also look toward the survival and the immediate financial need of restaurateurs and their employees.

The TX Restaurant Relief Fund, established through the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation (TRAEF), the not-for-profit workforce development arm of the TRA, has a simple yet critical mission: To provide immediate financial relief to Texas’ independent restaurateurs with funds designed to save employee jobs. Independent restaurateurs will be eligible to apply for grants of up to $5,000 per unit through the TX Restaurant Relief Fund.

“Restaurants are facing a challenge unlike anything we’ve seen before,” said Dr. Emily Williams Knight, President and CEO of the Texas Restaurant Association and Education Foundation. “We know that help is on the way, however, it can’t come fast enough. We thought long and hard about establishing this fund, but as the leader in industry education and workforce training and certification across Texas, we knew the TRA/TRAEF had to play a critical role in this relief effort. Restaurant owners are in a fight for their lives and those of the employees they value most. I am proud that in partnership with our incredible partners, suppliers and frankly, anyone who loves restaurants, we will be able to play a key role in supporting the industry we all need and love”.

This relief fund was designed to provide independent restaurants with immediate financial support that will supplement the low-interest loans and other relief packages being readied by our federal and state governments. “As a small business owner, myself, I have felt the direct impact of the Governors Executive Order mandating the closure of dine-in options across the state,” said Sharon Van Meter, Chairwoman of the TRAEF Board of Trustees. “I know every bit of support we can provide owners could result in them being able to stay open for one more day, or to keep one more employee working. In times like this, every bit of financial relief helps.”

The TX Restaurant Relief Fund has a goal to raise a minimum of $10 million to be able to provide immediate support to 2,000 restaurant locations across the State of Texas. The real need is much greater, and so the Association will continue to raise funds and issue grants on a first come, first served basis.

“Eating in restaurants brings people together. Restaurants are the heart of every community, where sporting events, engagements and family celebrations are held. Our independent restaurants are community members. By supporting the independent restaurants that make up the core of where you live, you are supporting the future of your own community and ensuring that when this crisis is over, your favorite taco, barbeque or salad shop is open and thriving,” said Knight.

The TRA is calling out to all of the industry’s suppliers, distributors, allied vendor partners, and other corporations to support the TX Restaurant Relief Fund. Texans get more than 50% of their food from restaurants. We must band together to ensure that they don’t just remain open for our needs today, but that they are here tomorrow and continue to play an integral role in society and in each of our lives.

All donations to the TX Restaurant Relief Fund are fully tax-deductible, subject to applicable laws and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations. Donations can be made by texting “TRRF” to 31996, via the Fund’s website, https://www.txrestaurant.org/TXRestaurantReliefFund, or by emailing tr***********@tx**********.org.

About the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation (TRAEF)
Established in 1994 by the Texas Restaurant Association, the TRA Education Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization focused on providing the necessary resources to help restaurateurs confront educational and labor challenges with the latest innovations in education, technology, and training. The Foundation’s mission is to provide educational opportunities to build and maintain a strong professional foodservice workforce in Texas. The organization’s flagship program is Texas ProStart, an industry-based, two-year high school culinary arts and restaurant management curriculum. Texas ProStart is currently in more than 150 Texas high schools, reaching more than 15,000 students annually.

Blackland Distillery has stepped up in a big way. They have stopped producing alcohol and have shifted to provide much-needed hand sanitizer for the community.
